Qorikancha and Sacsayhuamán
The Inca sun temple beneath the Santo Domingo convent, and the fortress of stone blocks fitted without mortar.
Sacred Valley
Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray and the Maras salt pans, all within a few hours of the city.
Rainbow Mountain
Vinicunca, at 5,200 metres, with coloured mineral bands. Requires prior acclimatisation.

Best time to go
When is the best time to visit Cusco?
May to September is the dry season and the best for trekking and for Machu Picchu. From November to March it rains often, and the Inca Trail closes in February for maintenance.

How do you get to Cusco?
Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport (CUZ) receives flights from Lima in about 1h20. Cusco sits at 3,400 metres and altitude sickness is common, so it is worth keeping the first day free for rest.
